Inclusive notion of community participation of vulnerable young people due to disabilities in physical-recreational activities

Abstract

The community problem related to the participation of young people with disabilities in physical-recreational activities is a very sensitive issue and appropriate to current positions on social inclusion. The situation to be resolved is centered on the conception of physical-recreational activities of the Consejo Centro community of the Santa Clara municipality for the participation of young people with disabilities. The objective is to analyze, from the perception of such persons in the aforementioned community, the physical-recreational activities for their participation. For the study, a population of 60 young people with intellectual and physical-motor disabilities from this community was used. Theoretical and empirical methods like the scientific observation, surveys, and mathematical statistics such as percentage analysis were used. Indicators were declared, among them, the correspondence of the physical-recreational activities with likes and preferences of these people; the identification of architectural barriers, for the prevention of potential dangers in the area of activities; and, the subsequent verification of the satisfaction of young people with the activities. Finally, a poor inclusive culture was reflected in the community where these young live, due to the lack of correspondence with their needs, which results in insufficient participation, a thought assumed
