REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR ASTHMATIC PATIENTS OF THE 3rd AGE WHO REMAIN IN BED

Abstract

An exercise program is carry out to be managed by the family of asthmatic patients of the 3rd age who remain in bed at the policlinic Dr. Manuel Díaz Legrá, Holguín to increase the quality of life of this persons  in the period January-December 2008. This program includes tecnics of respiratory reeducation, exercise training, behavioral and educational therapy. The habitual treatment was keeping. As indicators were taken in account one National Geriatrician Scale that value medications consumption, the quality of sleep and the emotional status. The respiratory frequency per minute and the maximal time of expiration were also taken in account. This pre-experiment was carry out with a sample of 10 asthmatic patients who remain in bed out of the 22 of 8 family doctors of the same policlinic. The program was applied during 36 sessions (three  per week). As statistical procedure we used the Dócima of sign. When the initial and final tests were compared 90% of the patients improve their quality of life. There were statistical significations in three of the five indicators measured. The rest of the indicators keep similar.
