THE SÃNDROME DE GUILLAIN - BARRÉ AND THE EXERCISES IN WATER
Abstract
The present research work was carried out in order to propose a method of exercises in the water for the clinical rehabilitation of the Guillain-Barré syndrome sequelae. It was necessary a thorough study of foreign as well as domestic specialized literature on the subject. The evolution of the object of study was most interesting since it is the first case in which a patient succeeds in rehabilitating by herself. The patient was a young woman (25 years old) with sensomotor sequelae which prevented her from leaqding a normal life. She underwent a treatment consisting in a series of exercises in the water all by herself. The effectiveness of treatment was proved with the use of theoretical, empirical and comparative methods. Among other results, the patient was able to recover from such sequelae in a relatively short time; muscle power, conduction speed and motor coordination showed a 100 % improvement which allowed the patient to reassume her normal social life.
