THE UNIVERSITY- SOCIETY LINKAGE. A HISTORIC NEED

Abstract

The visions of the university - society linkage have gone transforming and enriching, biased for the university functions: teaching (professionalization), investigation (production of knowledge) and extension (social service). This reality generates debates, arguments and new proposals on the social function of the university (pertinence), as from the relation that is produced between these elements with the new scenes. In order to do the trick scientific: How interpreting the heterogeneity and the particularities of the linkage between the university and the society in contemporaneity; In order to have an effect on the change process of the society. The article has like objective to sell off a theoretic sketch of the university – society linkage, in order to demonstrate his historic need, besides, refers to the paradoxes of the linkage at the modern university; writing down the differences as to the understanding of the formation function, investigation and the extension and his social impact. They have utilized methods that allow accomplishing a theoretic analysis, source of reflections and debates guided to the explanation and materialization of the paper member in order to contribute to the theoretic reflection – economic and cultural of the contemporary university.
