Abstract

The work of José Martí (1853-1895) has an extraordinary universality, since it practically addressed all fields, with criteria marked by the love of humanity and the commitment to justice. The purpose of this work is directed to an analysis of this work from the edge of sport and physical activity, which is not foreign in his writings and whose criteria can be found scattered by the Complete Works (Martí, 1975) that collect the great literary production of the Cuban hero. The reflections that are shared in the article contribute to the understanding of the essence of sport in Cuban society today, with the contribution of ideas that can serve as a starting point to reason with students about this topic and perform critical analysis in the field of specialists.
