Impact of the National Reading Program on students of the Holguin University
Abstract
The present work deals with the treatment given to one of the problems the University of Holguín currently faces: the promotion and fostering of the reading habit. Consequently, from all faculties of the university, a set of measures and indicators was elaborated to favor this habit. In its development, theoretical and empirical methods were used which, in their dialectical relation with simple procedures in the field of statistics, revealed the main transformations that occurred during the thorough process of the investigation, such as the insertion of the different majors in the sub processes and activities of the extracurricular area, where the students have a leading role as they conceive reading as a means to gain knowledge and spend their spare time in a fruitful way. This research contributes to the cognitive, communicative and sociocultural approach in Language and Literature Teaching.
