Abstract

The practice of exercises using heavy external loads in childhood is one of the most controversial topics in academic discussions in the context of sports practice, both internationally and in Cuba. The objective of this review study is to summarize and update scientific knowledge on the relevance of weight exercises in girls who are between 10 and 11 years old, as opposed to popular beliefs that exist in this regard. The strategy used consisted in the bibliographic review carried out between september 2017 and september 2019 in online databases (PubMed, Dialnet, Scielo) and search engines (Google, Bing, Google Scholar, among others), publications that were considered for their impact and date of publication. The results show the existence of a vast scientific bibliography that demystifies the existing popular beliefs about the practice of exercises with weights in girls, asserting their falsity.
