Dignity and professional development of the Physical Education and sports professors: notes for a debate

Abstract

The recognition of dignity as a value and essential human right is one of the most significant elements as well as an originator of discussions in the evolution of the juridical social order, all over the world and in Cuba. The objective of this reflection study is to sum up, comprehend and update the scientific knowledge about dignity, its main role and position in the Cuban Revolutionary Project and specifically in the development of Physical Education and Sports professors who work at high schools. The multiple triangulation was the strategy used to accomplish this research, such as triangulation of data sources, methods (empirical and theoretical) and the informations obtained between January 2017 and October 2019; taking into account the redundancy or saturation criterion according to Morse, allowed to obtain and consolidate a solid basis of knowledge to achieve the proposed objective. The results show that the concept of human dignity is a transcendental one, as well as an invaluable tool for the Cuban Revolutionary Project. Some deficiencies detected in the behavior of the students of first year, in the mentioned major degree, represent some of the challenges in the process of formation and appropriation of the dignity value within the school environment.
