Theoretical-Practical Approach to Apnea Diving for Lifeguard Training Courses

Abstract

Knowing and mastering apnea diving techniques is essential to be successful in aquatic rescue. However, most of the students that join lifeguard training courses do not know diving technical foundations or regulations, because there are no auxiliary teaching materials in this regard. That is why this article presents a theoretical-practical approach to support the teaching-learning process of apnea diving. Factors conditioning this technique duration are also included; related accidents, recommendations to save both energy and oxygen during diving. Likewise, guidelines for the future lifeguards´ physical preparation, and exercises to regulate the respiration-apnea rhythm.
