Sports selection of baseball pitchers

Abstract

Sports selection is a systematic process. It allows identifying the athletes' capacities, skills, psychological willingness, and needed social factors to assimilate the training load. Also, it is where the concept of sports talent becomes remarkable. Even though there are Athletes Baseball Training Programs, methodological suggestions allowing the pitcher's accurate selection are still insufficient. This issue affects the team's competitive performance. Pitching the ball requires effort, concentration, tenacity, control, and precision. Hence, this article characterizes the pitchers within the under 18-year-old team from Isla de la Juventud. In the study were considered theoretical and methodological foundations related to this topic. The theoretical methods analysis-synthesis and historico-logical were applied, while the empirical analysis and document review and surveys.  Regarding the pitchers' low sports performance integrating the sample, and the lack of a methodology arranging the selection process of pitchers in the senior category, it is evidenced the need to add to the Sports Training Program a methodology from the feasible scientific indicators within the sports selection process.
