Flexibility training in the aquatic environment as a conditional physical capacity of lifeguards
Keywords:
aquatic flexibility; physical preparation; injury prevention; lifesavingAbstract
The physical preparation of lifeguards requires the comprehensive development of their conditional abilities, where flexibility has traditionally been underestimated. It has been shown that aquatic flexibility training contributes to improving joint range of motion and preventing injuries. This paper reflects on the relevance and specific methods for aquatic flexibility training for lifeguards. Techniques related to static and dynamic stretching, as well as proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation adapted to water, are reviewed, proposing exercises applied to the technical movements of lifesaving, along with routines for regular training. The systematic inclusion of aquatic flexibility sessions in the physical preparation of lifeguards can not only improve their efficiency in rescues but also constitutes a fundamental tool for reducing joint impact and the risk of injuries inherent to the profession.
