Shotokan karate attack points: a systematic review

The objective of the systematic review was to detect the difference between the point attacks and the offensive actions of the fight of the Olympic karate versus the JKA and traditional karate. The collection of scientific articles was carried out using Google Scholar, Research Gate, Scielo, Dialnet, Redalyc, Medline, Ebsco, Doaj and PubMed. The systematic review involved 16 researchers. Attack was the most used offensive action by JKA and traditional male karate (with 66 %) and female (with 63 %) and by Olympic karate (with 38.77 to 80.6 %). The punch was the most practiced offensive action in JKA and traditional karate male (80%) and female (90 %) and in male (55 to 88.08 %) and female (95 %) Olympic karate. The punch that was awarded most points was the gyaku zuki and the kick that was awarded most points varied between genders and among federations. The kick with the most points was the mawashi geri and mae geri in the men`s JKA and traditional, the mae geri in the women's JKA and traditional, the mawashi geri in the men's Olympic karate and the ura mawashi geri in the women's Olympic karate. The majority of the points were awarded in the central combat zone during the JKA and traditional fight (men with 64 % and women with 64 %) and Olympic karate (men with 76.67 %). In conclusion, studying the attacks that award points in shotokan karate is an interesting work for the coach to elaborate his/her athlete's strategy and tactics during the competition.
