Abstract

The objective of this article is to contribute to the use of chess as a therapeutic tool in the development of adaptive skills in students with intellectual disabilities with mild functioning, since these schoolchildren show ostensible limitations in the discrimination and decoding of the information they receive from the external environment, which will significantly influence their interaction with their sociocultural environment. From this perspective, a group of exercises was implemented that uses the basic contents of chess as a distinctive feature; the selected sample is made up of the 8 students with intellectual disabilities that form the sports enrollment of the chess academy of the Florida municipality in the province of Camagüey. To carry out the present investigation, investigative methods such as documentary analysis were used; analysis and synthesis; induction and deduction, observation, survey, as well as statistical mathematicians. The results obtained show the validity of the exercises designed from the chess class for the development of adaptive skills in intellectually disabled students with mild functioning.
